Kwara CP Assures KOPAN On Partnership, Urges Against Sensationalize Report

Kwara Commissioner of Police, Mr Paul Odama has assured journalists in the state of continued partnership.

Mr Odama gave the assurance, on Tuesday, when members of the Kwara online publishers of the Association of Nigeria KOPAN led by Ogbeni Hammed Adedayo Said made a courtesy visit to him.

The CP made it clear that there was no way the police and other security agencies could do without the journalists, especially on the issue of fighting crime and criminality and promised to work with them in all their security activities.

Mr Odama also assured them that he would not allow his men to humiliate or jeopardise the work of journalists or members of the public as he carried out his duties as police commissioner in the state.

According to him, you don’t have to abuse people in your journalism, If there’s any issue feel free to reach out to the authority, the essence of reporting is to tell the people what happened.

He explained that as the watchdog of society, journalists must at all times guard against reports that could further create more challenges to the state.

He, however, assured the association of the Command’s unflinching support at times.

Earlier, the chairman of the Kwara online publishers of the Association of Nigeria KOPAN led by Ogbeni Hammed Adedayo Said, had welcomed the new commissioner to the state and pledged the readiness of his members to work with his command and make him succeed.

Mr Adedayo said that the association is known for professionalism, and operates under the ethics of the profession.

“I can assure you that the doors of the KOPAN are open and whenever you need our assistance to enhance the performance of your job, we will always be there for you,” he said.
