Kwara 2023: Saraki’s Ally Captain Popoola Officially Decamp To YPP

The Young Progressives Party (YPP) gained more grounds yesterday ahead of the upcoming generation election after hundreds of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members in Oyun local government of Kwara State decamped to the YPP, declaring support for the party’s governorship candidate, Alhaji Yakubu Gobir.

Captain S.T. Popoola, an ally of the former Senate President, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, with hundreds of supporters on Monday formally dumped the party for the Young Progressives Party (YPP) saying i want a Kwara that will work for all.

The former PDP chieftain, who spoke while formally joining the YPP said “Truly Senator Rafiu Ibrahim and the PDP executive and some stakeholders in Kwara South visited after you left and pleaded with me not to leave PDP but it’s too late because I have made up my mind already. They said the YPP party that is romancing me doesn’t have a political structure but I told them we can create the structure for the party and am very sure that YPP will win.

“I let them understand that this time around is not about money because at this stage of my life I am not after monetary benefits, houses or cars but am after a Kwara that will work for all.”

“As I have said earlier I have never left PDP since 2001. But as of today, I, Captain ST Popoola, am happy to announce my defection from the PDP to the YPP. As from today, I am a full YPP member.”

Mr Popoola also declared support for Alhaji Yakubu Gobir and promises to deliver Oyun local government for YPP during next year’s governorship election.

The State Publicity Secretary, Oyewole Oladele (Delicious), who alongside other party chieftains received Popoola into the party, expressed happiness, saying YPP is delighted to have them in their fold, pointing out that he does not doubt that his coming would add value to efforts made by the party to achieve victory come 2023, to bring development to the state and improve the quality of lives of the people of Kwara.
