Jailbreak In Kogi: Correctional Officer Killed, Two Escapees Rearrested
Security operatives have successfully rearrested two of the fugitives, while efforts are ongoing to track down the remaining 10.
Lokoja, Kogi State— A Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) officer lost his life during a jailbreak at the Koton Karfe Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kogi State in the early hours of Monday.
The Service Public Relations Officer (SPRO), Mr. Abubakar Umar, confirmed the incident in an interview in Abuja, stating that 12 inmates escaped from the facility.
However, security operatives have successfully rearrested two of the fugitives, while efforts are ongoing to track down the remaining 10.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Umar confirmed a thorough investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of the jailbreak.
“We are still examining how the inmates managed to escape without causing structural damage,” he said.
“Regrettably, one of our officers lost his life during the incident.
“We are collaborating closely with the police and other security agencies to ensure the escaped inmates are recaptured and returned to custody.”
