Immigration Officer Killed By Mob In Niger Land Dispute

Despite efforts by traditional institutions and law enforcement, the issue has persisted for years without resolution

Minna, Niger State– Angry youths in Niger State have reportedly killed Immigration officer, Isah Mohammed, amid an ongoing land dispute between two communities.

Mohammed, a native of the Zhitsu Babi area in the Doko community, was attacked and killed on his farmland during a clash between the Doko and Kupafu communities in Lavun Local Government Area on Wednesday.

It was gathered that Mohammed was assaulted by individuals believed to be from the rival community over the longstanding land dispute.

Despite efforts by traditional institutions and law enforcement, the issue has persisted for years without resolution.

Niger State Police Command Spokesman Wasiu Abiodun confirmed that Mohammed was taken to Umaru Sanda General Hospital in Bida, where he was pronounced dead.

“On 14/8/2024 at about 1130hrs, it was reported at Doko Div that one Isah Mohammed of Zhitsu Babi area of Doko was attacked in the farm by some suspected irate youths of Kupafu village over a lingering farmland tussle.

“The victim was attacked and became unconscious, police operatives from Doko Div rushed to the scene but the miscreants had fled.

“The victim was taken to Umaru Sanda Ndayako General Hospital, Bida, where he was confirmed dead.

“However, investigation has commenced into the unfortunate incident to arrest the perpetrators of the act and ensure that justice is served,” he said.
