Ibadan, Oyo State — A Grade A Customary Court sitting at Mapo in Ibadan has ordered the remand of a 73-year-old man, Mudashiru Salau, in the Agodi Correctional Centre for allegedly attacking his neighbour, Ridwan Lawal, with a machete during a disagreement.

Salau was granted bail in the sum of N200,000, with two reliable sureties who must be his blood relations. However, his inability to fulfill the conditions led to his remand pending trial.

“The defendant is hereby remanded at Agodi Correctional Centre until he is able to meet the bail conditions,” Owoseni ruled, adjourning the case until May 23 for the commencement of trial.

The prosecutor, Inspector Ayodele Ayeni, informed the court that the incident occurred on April 1 at about 7:00 a.m. on Alubarika Street, in the Muslim area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

According to Ayeni, a minor disagreement between Salau and Lawal escalated into violence, during which the defendant allegedly used a machete to inflict a deep cut on the right cheek of the complainant.
