“I Killed Hafsoh For Money Rituals”— Abdulrahman Bello Confesses In Court As Grisly Evidence Is Played
Bello and several co-defendants appeared before Justice Hannah Olushola Ajayi at the Kwara State High Court as the murder trial continued.
Ilorin, Kwara State – Abdulrahman Bello, the primary suspect in the brutal murder of Hafsoh Yetunde Lawal, on Wednesday openly confessed to killing the young woman to obtain her hands for money rituals.
Bello and several co-defendants appeared before Justice Hannah Olushola Ajayi at the Kwara State High Court as the murder trial continued.
A video recording, admitted as evidence and played in court, captured Bello’s confession, in which he admitted to killing Hafsoh alone, stating that he needed human hands for ritual purposes.
“If I had the connection to get the body parts, I wouldn’t have killed anyone,” Bello said in the footage, insisting he acted alone.
Inspector Ayodele Azeez, attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Kwara State Police Command, testified that the case was transferred from the C Division in Oja-Oba to the CID on February 14, 2025.
He detailed the gruesome items recovered from Bello’s residence in the Olunlade area, including an axe, cutlass, charms, Hafsoh’s severed hands, a container of blood, phones, and slippers.
Inspector Azeez explained that Bello’s confession was documented under caution and in the presence of a legal representative, Barrister A.O. Ahmed.
The police also presented a Compact Disk containing video footage of the confession, which was challenged by Bello’s counsel, Barrister Agbede, on grounds of alleged coercion.
However, the court admitted the disk and ordered it played.
The inspector also confirmed that phone call records linked Bello to other suspects, including a teacher and fellow students.
He noted that despite a search, no incriminating materials were found in the homes of the co-defendants.
Justice Ajayi adjourned the proceedings for recess at 11:32 a.m. as the trial continues to unearth more details surrounding the murder that has shaken the community.
