Gunmen Kill PDP Ward Leader, Son In Fresh Attack On Kwara Community 

Sources told Afrika Eyes on Wednesday that the attack occurred late Tuesday night when the armed assailants stormed Kpotun’s residence

Ilorin,  Kwara State- Gunmen suspected to be bandits have reportedly killed a prominent businessman and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ward leader, Alhaji Abdullahi Kpotun, along with his son, during an attempted abduction in Lile village, Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Sources told Afrika Eyes on Wednesday that the attack occurred late Tuesday night when the armed assailants stormed Kpotun’s residence and opened fire while trying to kidnap him and his son.

“Not only his family was attacked last night, the bandits also raided another household and killed another person,” a local resident revealed under the condition of anonymity due to security concerns.

The source told Afrika Eyes that the coordinated attack has thrown the community into mourning, with residents calling for urgent government and security intervention to curb the increasing wave of insecurity in the region.

As of the time of filing this report, efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, Ejire-Adeyemi Adetoun, were unsuccessful, as she neither answered calls nor responded to text messages sent to her.

The incident marks another violent episode in the rising insecurity that has plagued parts of Kwara North in recent months.

Recalled Afrika Eyes reported that gunmen suspected to be bandits reportedly carried out coordinated attacks on Patigi and Ndanaku communities in Kwara North Senatorial District, killing two people, including a prominent pharmacist.

On June 3, 2025, the attacks occurred late Monday night, shortly after Muslim faithful had concluded the Ishai (night) prayers.

One of the victims was identified as the Chief Executive Officer of Biskad Pharmacy in Patigi. She was allegedly shot and killed during an attempted abduction by the assailants.
