Group Call On INEC To Protect The Integrity Of Elections In Nigeria
We urge Nigerians to remain calm and observant as the events unfold.
The Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative (BBYDI) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to suspend the collation of results in the supplementary election in Adamawa State.
This was a sequel to the admission by the resident electoral commissioner, Yunusa Ari, in Adamawa, who announced Aisha ‘Binani’ Dahiru, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the winner of the election.
In a statement by the Director of Communications BBYDI, Sanni Alausa-Issa, obtained by Afrika Eyes on Sunday, April 16, 2023.
The statement read; “A video emerged on social media where the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mallam Hudu Yunusa Ari, announced that the APC candidate, Aisha Dahiru, won the election.
“The REC’s announcement violates the laws guiding the declaration of winners in such elections, which is the responsibility of the Returning Officer. Therefore, we call on INEC to immediately prosecute the REC for his actions.
“Nigerians are watching, and their trust in the electoral process will be tested if INEC fails to follow due process. We urge Nigerians to remain calm and observant as the events unfold.”
Mr Issa explained that as an organization, they are monitoring the proceedings closely and Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative will ensure that they follow it to the end.
