Former ABU VC, Prof. Abdullahi Mahadi, Is Dead

He was a former chairman of Academic staff union of Nigeria University.

A former vice chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Professor Abdullahi Mahadi, has died. He was 77.

A renowned historian and an accomplished educationist, the late scholar had also served as vice chancellor of Gombe State university, and Gombe State University of Science and Technology.

Prof Mahadi was born in December 1945 from Gwiza, Borno State. He was a former chairman of Academic staff union of Nigeria University ASUU.

He began his teaching career in 1984 as a senior lecturer in History at ABU and rose to become the vice chancellor between 1998 and 2004.

The late professor was a recipient of a national honour of CON.

According to The Abusite, he was honored at the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, ISESCO Headquarters, Rabat, Morocco in 2017 by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on “The Environmental Management and Protection in the Islamic World”.

He had authored and co-authored several books among which is History of Nigeria for Schools and Colleges, Books I-II, (Longman, 1988).
