Court Remands Film Producer ‘Almaroof’ In Prison Over Alleged Murder Of Friend

Ilorin, Kwara State– An Ilorin Magistrate Court has ordered the remand of the Chief Executive Officer of Almaroof Standard Investment, Oloba Maroof Adebayo Afolayan, for allegedly killing his friend, Mustapha Balogun.

Recalled the ace movie marketer who claimed to be the Oloba of Isale-Oba in Irepodun Local Government Area of the state, was dethroned over alleged claims to be the king of Samora.

Almaroof was arraigned before the Magistrate Court presided over by Magistrate Monisola Kamson for the alleged offences of Criminal conspiracy, false impersonation and culpable homicide contrary to section 97, 179 and 221 of Penal code Law.

According to the police information, the deceased’s wife, Mustapha Halimat, received a call from an unknown person whom she later identified as Wasiu, a friend of her husband. He informed her that her husband had fallen at his workplace at a mining site and was rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

Halimat said that upon arriving at the hospital, she was informed that her husband had been brought in dead.

Police action led to the arrest of the defendant, Afolayan, who claimed to be the Oloba of Samora and alleged to be behind the killing of Mustapha Balogun.

A discreet investigation conducted by SCID revealed that the deceased, who was Afolayan’s friend, was sick and vomiting but the defendant allegedly failed to take him to a nearby hospital for treatment nor report the incident at a Police station.

Meanwhile, Afolayan reportedly travelled down to Samora, his hometown with the deceased to perform family ritual rites.

The defendant allegedly brought the deceased down to a private hospital in Ilorin from his hometown where the doctor on duty confirmed Mustapha Balogun dead on arrival.

The prosecutor, Abdullah Sanni, urged the court to order the remand of the defendant in the Correctional facility considering the gravity of the alleged offence that is not ordinarily bailable.

Magistrate Monisola Kamson, who presided over the matter, granted the application and ordered Afolayan’s remand in Oke Kura Correctional facility while the case was adjourned to March 1, 2024.
