Court Grants N500,000 Bail To Two Journalists ‘Akoguns’ Accused Of Defamation

A Magistrate Court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State has granted bail to two Kwara-based Journalists,  Dare Akogun of Sobi Fm and Abdulrasheed Akogun of Fresh Insight, for allegedly defaming and inciting the public against Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mallam Rafiu Ajakaye.

It would be recalled that Mr Ajakaye, through a petition to the Commissioner of Police accused the duo of defamation and inciting the public against the government.

Mr Ajakaye said AbdulRasheed and Dare posted a comment on the popular WhatsApp platform, Kwara Commission, accusing the government of the day of being most corrupt and of facilitating fifteen million nairas to prosecute the last election of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara State chapter.

Meanwhile, the Kwara Police command arraigned the duo on Friday before Ilorin Magistrate Court. Charged the two brothers with criminal defamation of character.

However, the Akoguns on Wednesday were granted bail with the sum of N500,000 as a bail condition.
