Court Grants Human Rights Activist Olamide Thomas N10 Million Bail For Insulting Tinubu’s Son, IGP
The ruling was delivered by Justice Emeka Nwite, who stated that there was insufficient evidence to suggest that Thomas would jump bail.
Abuja, Nigeria- Nigerian human rights activist, Olamide Thomas, has been granted bail by the Federal High Court in Abuja in the sum of 10 million naira for allegedly insulting President Bola Tinubu’s son and the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
The ruling was delivered on Monday under stringent conditions, including the provision of one surety in the same amount.
The case, filed under suit No. FHC/ABJ/CR/636/2024, is against the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and two other individuals.
The defendant was represented by Dr. S. M. Oyeghe and J. A. Ekwe, while the motion for bail was heard with both the defendant’s application and the complainant’s counter affidavit being considered.
The ruling was delivered by Justice Emeka Nwite, who stated that there was insufficient evidence to suggest that Thomas would jump bail.
Meanwhile, as part of the bail conditions, the surety must provide an affidavit of means, a three-year tax clearance certificate, and reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
Both Thomas and the surety are required to submit two recent passport photographs, and the surety’s address must be verified.
However, the trial has been adjourned to February 18, 2025.
