BREAKING: Warri Refinery Resumes 125,000-Barrel Daily Production, Says NNPCL Boss Mele Kyari
We are taking you through our plant. This plant is running. It is not 100 percent. We are still in the process.
Asaba, Delta State– The Warri Refining and Petrochemicals Company (WRPC), with a capacity of 125,000 barrels per day, has resumed operations.
This development was confirmed by the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, during a tour of the facility in Warri, Delta State, on Monday.
Addressing his team before the tour, Kyari explained the importance of the achievement, stating:
“We are taking you through our plant. This plant is running. It is not 100 percent. We are still in the process. Many people think these things are not real. They think real things are not possible in this country. We want you to see that this is real.”
The tour also included the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed, alongside other industry stakeholders.
The refinery’s revival is part of NNPCL’s broader efforts to reduce Nigeria’s reliance on imported petroleum products and enhance energy security.
While the facility is not yet operating at full capacity, its reactivation signals progress in the government’s push for local refining capabilities.
The Warri refinery is one of several under NNPCL’s management undergoing rehabilitation to address decades of underperformance in Nigeria’s refining sector.
