BREAKING: Trump Designates Nigeria As ‘Country Of Particular Concern’ Over Widespread Killings Of Christians
The president said decisive action was necessary to protect religious freedom and stop persecution on the basis of faith.
U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that Nigeria is being designated as a “country of particular concern,” citing what he described as the “mass slaughter” of Christians across the West African nation.
“Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria,” Trump posted to Truth Social. “Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter. I am hereby making Nigeria a “COUNTRY OF PARTICULAR CONCERN” — But that is the least of it.”
The president said decisive action was necessary to protect religious freedom and stop persecution on the basis of faith.
Trump revealed that he has directed Rep. Riley Moore (R-W.Va.), Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.), and members of the House Appropriations Committee to investigate the ongoing violence and report their findings to him.
“The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening in Nigeria, and numerous other Countries,” Trump said. “We stand ready, willing, and able to save our Great Christian population around the World!”
Nigeria has faced mounting violence in recent years, particularly in its northern and central regions, where Islamist militants have targeted Christian communities. Entire villages have been razed, churches burned, and worshippers killed during Sunday services.
In June, militants attacked the hometown of a Catholic bishop just days after he testified before the U.S. Congress about Christian persecution, killing more than twenty people.
Similar attacks in Plateau and Benue States have left hundreds dead this year alone, with survivors recounting how gunmen shouted “Allahu Akbar” as they set homes and churches ablaze.
