Abuja, Nigeria– Nigeria’s human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has regained his freedom after spending two days in police custody.
Sowore, who was arrested earlier this week, confirmed his release on Friday evening, expressing gratitude to supporters who rallied behind him during the ordeal.
In a post on his social media handle, he wrote:“Nigeria Police Force has capitulated to the demands of the revolutionary movt, I have been released from unjust, illegal & unwarranted detention. However, it is nothing to celebrate, but thank u for not giving up!#RevolutionNow.
Sowore, a vocal critic of government policies and convener of the RevolutionNow movement, has had multiple run-ins with law enforcement over his activism.
Sowore, however, thanked human rights lawyer Femi Falana, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former presidential candidate Peter Obi, Deji Adeyanju, and all other stakeholders who stood up and called for his release.
