BREAKING: Lucky Aiyedatiwa Sworn In As Governor Of Ondo State

Akure, Ondo State– The acting governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, was officially sworn in as the governor, succeeding the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

The swearing-in which was held at the Cocoa Conference Hall in the governor’s office in Akure, the state capital and was administered by the chief judge, Justice Olusegun Odusola at 5:18pm.

Aiyedatiwa who managed to weather an impeachment threat orchestrated by Akeredolu’s associates in the Ondo State House of Assembly, alongside formidable resistance from loyalists of his deceased predecessor.

The political landscape of the state became shrouded in controversy over recent months, prompting activists and constitutional experts to urge Akeredolu to adhere to the provisions of the 1999 Constitution and facilitate the seamless transfer of power to Aiyedatiwa.

However, Akeredolu, who was in his second term as governor before his demise, formally passed the baton to Aiyedatiwa on December 13, 2023. The transition occurred concurrently with Akeredolu embarking on another medical journey abroad, marking his second such trip in 2023.

The 67-year-old Akeredolu could not return to Nigeria, succumbing to complications arising from prostate cancer during his overseas medical treatment.
