BREAKING: FG Reaffirms Support For Peaceful Protest, Issues Warning Against Violence

The President supports the right to protest but opposes violence and actions that could harm Nigerians’ well-being.

Abuja, Nigeria– The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has reaffirmed the Nigerian government’s commitment to upholding citizens’ right to peaceful protest.

He stated that the Tinubu administration is dedicated to safeguarding democratic rights, while also urging that protests be carried out in a way that maintains public order and respects others’ rights.

The government has issued a warning that violence or disruption of any kind will not be tolerated, as it seeks to balance civil liberties with community safety.

The Minister made this known during a courtesy visit on Wednesday, by the Charismatic Bishop Conference to his office in Abuja.

Idris stated that while the government recognizes the right to protest, it is also committed to preventing violence and ensuring public safety.

The Minister’s statement comes in the wake of plans by various groups to organize nationwide protests in response to the continuing economic crisis.

He, however, urged protesters to exercise their rights responsibly and peacefully, stressing the importance of avoiding harm to others and upholding social order.

He said, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration supports the principle that individuals can act according to their own judgment, provided it remains within legal limits.”

“The President supports the right to protest but opposes violence and actions that could harm Nigerians’ well-being.

He consistently maintains that under democratic principles, everyone has the right to pursue their own actions as long as these actions do not infringe on the rights of others.
