BREAKING: Federal High Court Orders Immediate Release Of Speed Darlington, Condemns Police Non-Compliance

The court further directed Abubakar Marshal, Esq., to stand as surety for the artist. Alternatively, the police were instructed to arraign him without delay.

Abuja, Nigeria- The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Nigerian Police to immediately release Nigerian rapper Speed Darlington, pending the hearing of the substantive case against him.

The court further directed Abubakar Marshal, Esq., to stand as surety for the artist. Alternatively, the police were instructed to arraign him without delay.

Human rights lawyer Adeyanju Adejumo made this  known on Monday via his X, confirming that the court issued the directive following reports of the rapper’s prolonged detention despite a prior bail order.

Speed Darlington, who has been in police custody since November 27, was re-arrested in Owerri, Imo State, following an earlier arrest in October. His initial arrest was reportedly linked to a petition filed by fellow artist Burna Boy.

The Federal High Court had previously granted Speed Darlington unconditional bail on December 23, requiring his legal team to submit the court order to the police legal department for processing.

This order was expected to be forwarded to the Force Investigation Department (FID), where the rapper remains detained.

However, despite fulfilling all legal requirements, including the submission of court documentation, the police have yet to release the artist.
