Abuja, Nigeria– The Magistrate Court sitting in Kuje, Abuja, has granted bail to Nigerian human rights activist and publisher of SaharaReporters, Omoyele Sowore, along with several protesters arrested during the “Free Nnamdi Kanu” demonstration.
The court, on Friday, ordered their release under specific conditions, including a three-year clearance with an international passport, an updated National Identification Number (NIN), and a bail sum of ₦500,000.
Sowore was reportedly arrested on Thursday within the premises of the Federal High Court in Abuja by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force while attending the ongoing trial of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
Known for his decades-long activism, Sowore has been at the forefront of several pro-democracy and human rights movements in Nigeria for over 30 years.
