BREAKING: ASUU Declares Total National Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has declared a national strike the national president of ASUU, Emmanuel Victor Osodeke broke the news during a press conference on Monday following a two-day deliberation of the union’s national executive council (NEC).

Members of the NEC, encompassing ASUU leaders across campuses, had been holding meetings since Saturday, the latest of which was at the University Of Lagos (UNILAG).

The ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, who addressed journalists, said the industrial action would be comprehensive.

The demands of the union include the payment of Earned Academic Allowance, a revitalisation fund, and the replacement of the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System (IPPIS), with the University Transparency and Accountability System (UTAS).

Recalled that the union had on November 15, 2021, given the Nigerian government a three-week ultimatum over its failure to meet the demands.
