Maiduguri, Borno State – Suspected Boko Haram terrorists disguised in military uniforms have killed 12 people and kidnapped one person, in Gatamarwa and Tsiha communities in the Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State.

The latest attack came just two weeks after the insurgents carried out a similar assault in Chibok, where they ruthlessly took two lives and pillaged food supplies from several homes before setting them ablaze,” remarked the local official, visibly troubled by the recurring violence.

It was gathered, that the terrorists stormed the community of Gatamarwa around 5pm on Monday, January 1, during the New Year celebration.

ASP Nahum Daso Kenneth, the spokesperson of the Borno State command, confirmed the attack on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, and said 12 corpses were recovered.

“The gunmen shot sporadically at the people in the two communities. So far, 12 corpses were recovered and two were injured.

He said the police commissioner and other security heads had ordered a discreet investigation to bring the perpetrators to book.

“The insurgents who were heavily armed with AK-47 rifles, came on motorcycles, in Hilux vans and opened fire on mourners returning from Gatamarwa,” he said.

“They later attacked another Tsiha community near Shikarkir and killed three people and abducted a young lady. They burnt houses after looting their foodstuffs.”
