Bandits have killed two persons and taken numerous others as captives in the Kofar Gayan area of Zaria, Kaduna State.

It was gathered that the gunmen invaded the area on Saturday night, August 12, 2023, and shot sporadically, killing the persons, while they kidnapped others.

The killings occurred a little over 24 hours following the unfortunate demise of numerous individuals due to the collapse of portions of the Zaria Central Mosque.

Meanwhile, Tajudeen Abbas, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, has strongly denounced the killings.

A statement issued by Musa Krishi, the media aide of the speaker, described the killings as both regrettable and repugnant.

The lives of Nigerians, wherever they are, should be protected, hence the need for the security agencies to up their game in the protection of Nigerians and their property.

Mr Abbas, who represents Zaria Federal Constituency, called for a thorough investigation into the attack and the killings to unravel those behind it.

He emphasized that the residents of Zaria are known for their peaceful nature and have maintained a harmonious existence for many years. He expressed concern that the actions of the bandits must not be permitted to disturb the serenity of the historic city.

“The attack that led to the killings of our two innocent brothers at Kofar Gayan was most calamitous, horrendous, tragic, heinous and disgusting,” the Speaker said.

“It was most unfortunate that when innocent people were going about their normal and legitimate activities, others were planning evil to disturb the peace enjoyed by everyone

“My heart goes out to the families of those that lost their loved ones. I pray that Allah (SWT) will grant the departed Jannatul Firdaus and give the families the fortitude to bear the painful and irreparable loss.”
