At least 12 persons have been abducted by bandits in two separate incidents in Zamfara and Borno States.

In the first incident, the bandits kidnapped four people including the village head of Kwali in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara state, Danjimma Hakimi, on Saturday, August 26, 2023.

Confirming the incident, local official Muhammad Bukuyum disclosed that three local farmers were among the other victims, he further noted that the bandits had initiated a ransom demand in connection with the incident.

In a separate incident, Boko Haram militants kidnapped eight farmers on Saturday from Maiwa village, about three kilometres away from Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state.

Mohammed Jida, who managed to escape from the assailants, recounted to Reuters that he witnessed the insurgents encircling the farmers while they were engaged in their farming activities.

“As I sighted them, I started running with others, scampering for safety. Luckily, I managed to escape but the rest of my colleagues were caught by Boko Haram.”

Greema Abubar and Bukar Kachallah, relatives of several victims, verified the attack and shared that the insurgents had indeed requested a ransom.

However, they did not provide any additional details about the ransom demand.
