Abuja-Kaduna Rail Resumes Operations Monday

Online and mobile app ticketing will be available beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday

The Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) will reintroduce the Abuja-Kaduna passenger train service on Monday, with only two return services.

The managing director of NRC, Fidet Okhiria, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday.

According to the announcement, the first train will depart Rigasa train station in Kaduna state for Abuja at 8:00 a.m., while the first train will depart Idu train station in Abuja at 9:45 a.m.

He also informed travelers that, as part of the increased security measures, must now provide their National Identity Number and a valid boarding ticket before boarding.

Mr Okhiria states that purchasing tickets through a proxy is restricted to minors and a certain number of adult travellers.

Online and mobile app ticketing will be available beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, December 4th, 2022, with railway station ticket offices opening at 6:30 a.m. on Monday, December 5th.

Earlier, the NRC suspended train operations along the route on March 28, 2022, after Boko Haram terrorists assaulted a moving passenger train in Kaduna.

The rebels blew up the rail track and bombed the moving train, killing some and kidnapping over 60 passengers. The horrific attack sparked global and national indignation.

The terrorists, who attacked the Kaduna-bound train, released hostages in tranches, with the last release coming on October 5, 2022.

Before the a were completely released, devastated family members had protested multiple times to demand the release of their loved ones.
