Be A Watchdog, Report Any Financial Misconduct With Facts, Proof- AFRICMIL

The need to build a strong network for people to become outstanding watchdogs of their community .

A non-governmental organization African Center for Media and Information and Literacy (AFRICMIL), has charged the Communities and members of the public to make factual reports on any sort of wrongdoings such as financial misconduct or discrimination with cogent facts and proof.

The Coordinator, Dr Chido Onumah ably represented by the program manager Mr Kolawole Ogunbiyi, disclosed this to the newsmen in a training organized at pake in Kwara Central Ilorin, Kwara state.

Mr Ogunbiyi said the project is brought together to enlighten the community about how to whistleblow of any form of wrong doings .

He further emphasized that the Non-governmental organization is charged with the vital blow for transparency on this part of the world so as to ensure total wellbeing of all the citizenry.

The State Coordinator , National Human rights Commission, Barrister Jumoke Olaoye
explained the need to build a strong network for people to become outstanding watchdogs of their community.

Barrister Olaoye noted that all forms of wrongdoings such as wife battery should be reported to the national human rights Commission while the identity of the reporter will be kept anonymous.

Speaking at the training as a resource person ,a senior lecturer from the department of Jurisprudence and international law , Faculty of law University of Ilorin ,Dr Oluwabunmi Niyi Gafar.

He stated that whistleblowing is important because it helps us to develop our society and ensures that what needs to be done by our leaders or people in position of authority is done accordingly meaning each person has to “soro soke” for corruption to die down in the society.

Dr Oluwabunmi expressed that it is high time to strategically mentioned that it is important to put in position of responsibility any person irrespective of gender or religion who can serve the people properly,

She encouraged participants not to insist that it is our child or person that must serve in a position of responsibility or authority if he or she can not handle it effectively.

Oluwabunmi stressed that the issue of ‘Omo wa ni’ should be totally exempted to assure quality and better living in our present society.

The Chief Executive Officer for Global World for Women and Children ,Mrs Christie Abayomi Oluwole specifically stated the need for all community members to take adequate care of their families

Mrs. Oluwole charged all to whistleblow all forms of corruption, discrimination and harassment in workplaces, breaches of the law and crimes ,human rights violations ,bribery ,maladministration or mismanagement.

Responding from the community ,Alhaja Tinuke from Gegele solicited for the provision of essentials of life such as water, light, empowerment and employment

The community were also encouraged to report any wrongdoings with facts and evidences to ensure proper reportage and solutions to all wrong doings .

The step down training encouraged all participants to arise to the call of speaking up for their rights.
