Tinubu Claims Peace Has Returned To North-West, North-East Despite Ongoing Killings, Kidnappings

Abuja,  Nigeria– President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday said his administration has restored peace to hundreds of liberated communities in the North-West and North-East, noting that thousands of displaced persons have safely returned to their homes.

The president made the remarks in his Independence Day broadcast, where he commended the gallantry of Nigeria’s armed forces and security agencies, noting that their sacrifices are paving the way for stability and renewed hope across the federation.

He added that the victories of the security forces, particularly against Boko Haram insurgents in the North-East, IPOB/ESN in the South-East, and kidnappers in the North-West, should be acknowledged.

“We are working diligently to enhance national security, ensuring our economy experiences improved growth and performance. The officers and men of our armed forces and other security agencies are working tirelessly and making significant sacrifices to keep us safe. They are winning the war against terrorism, banditry and other violent crimes. We see their victories in their blood and sweat to stamp out Boko Haram Terror in North-East, IPOB/ESN terror in South East and banditry and kidnapping. We must continue to celebrate their gallantry and salute their courage on behalf of a grateful nation. Peace has returned to hundreds of our liberated communities in North-West and North-East, and thousands of our people have returned safely to their homes.”

The president’s remarks, however, come amid persistent cases of killings, kidnappings, and violent attacks across several states.
