Illegal Clinic Shut Down In Abuja After Patient Dies From Botched Hernia Surgery

Some patients barely survived their treatments and had to seek emergency care elsewhere

Abuja, Nigeria — Authorities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have shut down an illegal health facility, Dada’s Clinic and Maternity Ltd, following the death of a patient after a hernia operation.

The Private Health Establishments Registration and Monitoring Committee (PHERMC) sealed the facility, located in Kapwa, Gaube Community, Kuje Area Council, for operating without registration and conducting unsafe medical procedures in an unfit environment.

The clinic’s operator, identified as Mr. Sabiu, was arrested and handed over to the police for further investigation.

Officials revealed that the facility, which operated in a rented apartment, lacked basic amenities such as toilets, doors, and windows, making it unsuitable for medical care.

The crackdown was led by the Director of Medical and Diagnostics Department, acting on the directives of Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, the Mandate Secretary for the FCT Health and Environment Secretariat.
