Kwara North Shelves Political Differences, Unite To Pursue State’s Top Seat In 2027 For Equity, Justice

Ilorin, Kwara State–  In a resounding display of solidarity for equity and fairness, the people of Kwara North Senatorial District have expressed their readiness to take over the state’s highest office in the upcoming 2027 gubernatorial elections.

The communique released by the organizers of the Kwara North Youth Summit, the Kwara Youth Stakeholders Forum, was jointly signed by Chairman Abduldayan Aishat Haruna, Secretary Haliru Hayatudeen, and Director of Media and Publicity Muhammad Nura Muhammad, on Tuesday’s, April 30, 2024.

The communiqué also underscored the fact that the 2027 agenda is an herculean task and it requires a united Kwara North regardless political, cultural and religious affiliation if that task is to be achieved.

The Kwara Youth Stakeholders Forum, expressed their willingness to set aside all their differences to form a common front for that course by seeing Kwara North as their political party first.

The statement read; “It was unanimously approved that at this moment, for all Kwara Northerners, Kwara North is our political party and as far as Kwara 2027 guber is concerned, Kwara North indigenes across political divides are urged to elect Kwara North first..” the communiqué states.

“The people also lamented the inability of the region to produce the governor of the state despite several attempts and having well qualified individuals with the required capacity to occupied such position. Adding that the people had been generous in supporting the other senatorial districts (Central and South) in producing governors of the state at different occasions, it is therefore appropriate for them to reciprocate such gesture and in the spirit equity and fairness by 2027.

“The summit also unanimously agreed that Kwara North desires and deserves Governorship of Kwara state come 2027, after so many years of demonstrating understanding and camaraderie with other senatorial districts to produce Kwara state Governors.”

“Kwara North is a unique senatorial district, that has demonstrated understanding among its people, despite the ethnic plurality and only needs to solidify its unity, consolidate and seek brotherly support from Kwara Central and Southern senatorial districts respectively, to achieve the possible and doable mission of realizing Kwara North Governorship come 2027.”

The communiqué also acknowledged the peculiar situation of Moro Local Government with a commitment to addressing it through internal mechanisms and negotiations, while also emphasizing the need for governments at all levels to pay more attention to improving infrastructure challenges faced by the people of the senatorial district and at the same time commended both the present and the previous administrations in closing the infrastructural gap of the senatorial district.

The summit was one of its kind with a large turnout with traditional leaders across the five local governments of senatorial district, political stalwarts across the major political parties, retired and present top government officials, community based organisations, students’ union bodies and political groups all in attendance at the event.
