65-Year-Old Woman Arrested For Allegedly Supplying Drugs To Boko Haram Terrorists In Borno

She is also alleged to have served as an important conduit in the wider distribution of the illicit substance across several communities within the North East Theatre of Operations.

Maiduguri, Borno StateTroops of the Joint Task Force (North East), have arrested a 65-year-old woman, Hauwa Abulazeez, in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, over her alleged involvement in the supply of illicit drugs to Boko Haram terrorist elements operating in the area.

Afrika Eyes gathered that the suspect was arrested by military acting on credible intelligence, on Thursday, January 23, 2026.

A security expert, Zagazola Makama made this known on Sunday,  disclosed that the suspect is believed to be a key supplier of cannabis sativa to Boko Haram fighters and collaborators moving through Askira Uba and neighbouring communities, including Rumirgo, Gwahi, Wamdiyo, Uvu and Gaya.

She is also alleged to have served as an important conduit in the wider distribution of the illicit substance across several communities within the North East Theatre of Operations.

Preliminary investigations by the troops indicate that the suspect allegedly sourced the cannabis sativa from Sarti Baruwa Local Government Area of Taraba State before transporting it through established supply routes into Borno State for onward distribution to terrorist elements and other criminal actors.

During the operation that led to her arrest, troops recovered 14 compressed blocks of cannabis sativa with an estimated total weight of about 30 kilograms.

Military authorities described the seizure as a significant interception that would have helped sustain terrorist activities and other criminal operations in the region if it had reached its intended recipients.

The military noted that the arrest and seizure form part of sustained efforts under Operation DESERT SANITY V to choke off the supply chains that enable terrorist groups to survive, regroup and carry out attacks against civilians and security forces.

The suspect is currently in military custody and is undergoing preliminary investigation, while follow-up operations are ongoing to identify, track and dismantle other members of the trafficking and distribution network linked to the supply of illicit drugs to terrorist groups.

Security authorities reiterated their commitment to intensifying intelligence-led operations across the North East to degrade terrorist capabilities and disrupt all forms of logistical, financial and material support to insurgent groups operating in the region.
