Nursing Mother, Baby Die In Adamawa Boat Mishap

Out of the five people on board, three have been rescued

Yola, Adamawa State -At least five passengers including a nursing mother and her baby lost their lives when a boat conveying at least five passengers capsized in Gamadio, a community in Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

Three people were rescued in a boat mishap that occurred in the river of Gamadio community, in the Numan Local Government Area, on Monday, December 11, 2023.

During a fact-finding visit, the Deputy Governor of the state, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, explained the imperative enforcement of life jacket usage among canoe users to ensure the safety of water transportation.

Professor Keletapwa, welcomed by the Chairman of Numan Local Government Area, Christopher Sofore, called upon relevant agencies to take up the responsibility of providing and enforcing the use of life jackets among canoe users to reduce the potential loss of lives and property during unforeseen events.

Professor Keletapwa urged stakeholders to consistently ensure the prompt reporting of such incidents to the police and other relevant authorities.

According to him, the State Government is committed to developing policies that prioritize the safety of lives and property on waterways.

Earlier, the LG chairman, Sofore, informed the Deputy Governor that out of the five people on board, three have been rescued, while a woman and her child are still missing.

Sofore added that a rescue and search mission is currently ongoing to locate and recover the bodies of the remaining two individuals.
