Bandits Attack Sokoto Communities, Kill 7, Abduct Others

Sokoto State– At least seven were killed by suspected bandits who wreaked havoc on two communities in Goronyo and Wurno Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Sokoto State.

The incident occurred in Kojiyo community in Goronyo LGA as well as Gwamatase village in Wurno LGA, both in the Eastern senatorial district of the state between Friday and Saturday, December 2, 2023.

The Spokesman of the State Police Command, ASP Ahmed Rufai, confirmed that at least three people were killed in the attack in Wurno, with one person injured.

However, he was unable to substantiate the attack in Kojiwo ward in Goronyo local government area, where five people were allegedly killed and many abducted by unknown armed men suspected to be bandits.

A resident, who preferred to remain anonymous, said that the incident occurred on Saturday evening.

He said apart from the killings of the five residents, many people were also abducted in the unfortunate attack.

“They attacked the village on Saturday evening, where they killed five residents of the area instantly. They also abducted many people in the village, and as of now, we have not ascertained the number of persons abducted,” he added.

The victims were laid to rest on Sunday morning.
