Kwara ANAN Advocates Support For Government’s Accountability Initiatives

ANAN, as a body, has new talent and accountants with great skills and integrity.

Ilorin, Kwara StateHajia Remi Sulyman, the newly elected Chairperson of the Council, Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), Kwara Branch, has advocated for the importance of strengthening institutional frameworks in public financial management to curb financial leakages in Kwara State.

The former Auditor General Kwara State local government made this known during the ANAN Annual General Meeting on Friday, December 1 2023, in Kwara state.

Addressing the assembly, the chairperson highlighted the importance of continuous training for accountants, asserting that public financial management reforms initiated by the government necessitate ongoing education.

She added that such training would be pivotal in ensuring better delivery in terms of accountability, probity, and transparency within the financial systems.

During the address, she announced plans to introduce a comprehensive program for ANAN members, ensuring that they receive proper training in various departments. The objective is to improve service delivery across all sectors of Kwara state’s accounts, given that about 70% of accountants in the state are members of ANAN.

In response to the rapidly evolving technological landscape, she stressed the significance of incorporating modern tools, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI), into the accountancy profession.

She asserted that embracing technology, especially AI would make accounting more efficient and accessible, allowing accountants to analyze data accurately and make informed decisions.

“With AI, what the accountants need to do now is that since they are the people that will think and be able to look at the data that have been analyzed by the AI and be able to give a decision that is very, very accurate.”

While attributing the potential of ANAN members, she expressed confidence in the organization’s ability to contribute significantly to the federal and state government efforts in achieving accountability, probity, and transparency.

“ANAN, as a body, has new talent and accountants with great skills and integrity. We will provide our own quota in a way that we can assist the federal and state government to achieve fruitful results on accountability, probity, and transparency within the shortest period,” she said.

She explained the importance of continuous learning, stating, “Learning is continuous as technology has come to stay, and all members of ANAN must embrace it to stay relevant in the rapidly evolving financial landscape.”

Mrs Sulyman added by expressing the organization’s commitment to supporting the government in achieving positive outcomes in financial management within the shortest period of time.
