‘I Didn’t Know Burning Qur’an Was Wrong’ Tani Olohun Begs Muslims

I beg all my prosecutors and the Muslims all over to forgive me

Ilorin, Kwara State– Abdulazeez Adegbola, widely known as Tani Olohun, a controversial traditionalist, has begged for forgiveness from the Muslim community in Kwara State.

The self-proclaimed Tani Olohun found himself in legal trouble after being accused of burning the Qur’an and defaming several Muslims.

After being granted bail on Thursday, Nov. 16, Tani Olohun addressed the court with a plea for mercy. In a somber tone, he expressed remorse for his alleged actions and sought forgiveness from the Muslim community, acknowledging the sensitivity of the matter.

The cases against Tani Olorun heard on Thursday were filed by Sheikh Labeeb Lagbaji and Modrasat Muhammed, led by Professor Abubakar Aliagan. The charges include the alleged burning of the Quran and other offenses, presented before Magistrate Adam.

Adressing the court, Tani Olorun, an Isese adherent, appealed to “Alfa Labeeb,” one of the applicants, and to the “Muslims,” expressing remorse for his actions.

He said, “I don’t know that burning the Qur’an is an offense, and when I was told, I immediately pulled down the video of the incident from my social media handle in less than a minute.

“I beg all my prosecutors and the Muslims all over to forgive me, and I promised I would not repeat such an act again of posting negative videos on social media handles.”

Earlier, Magistrate A.S Adam, presiding over the court where Tani Olohun faces trial for two separate cases, granted him bail earlier. The bail amount is N2 million, and he is required to provide three sureties in the same sum.

Two of the sureties must own landed property within the court’s jurisdiction or in Oyo State, the court ruled.

The case was adjourned to January 9, 2024.

Taofeeq Olateju and Y.Y Ajibade, the complainant’s counsels, did not object to the bail application presented by Tani Olohun’s lawyer, Barrister Ademola Banks.

However, Tani Olohun has finally gotten bail from the four different cases and three courts where he’s standing trial for the alleged offence of defamation and burning of the Qur’an in Ilorin.

It would be recalled that Abdulazeez Adegbola, facing charges of insulting Ilorin elders, appeared before Magistrate Muhammed Ibrahim.

The case was filed by the Association of Proud Sons and Daughters of Ilorin (Ogo Ilorin). Subsequently, he was brought to the Upper Area Court based on a direct complaint by the counsel of Alfa Okutagidi.
