Dutse, Jigawa State– The Jigawa State House of Assembly has suspended three local government council chairmen for alleged insubordination, as they reportedly embarked on an international trip to Rwanda without obtaining prior permission from the state executive or legislative authorities.

It was gathered that the council chairman went to Rwanda without obtaining the necessary permission from the state executive or legislative authorities, contravening the stipulations of the Jigawa State Local Government Law.

The suspended chairmen include Hon Rufai Ahmed of Gumel LGA, Hon Umar Baffa of Birniwa LGA and Hon Mubarak Ahmed of Yankwashi LGA.

The decision was reached by the House after Hon Aminu Zakari Tsubut, the Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government Affairs, put forth a motion to suspend the council chairmen in question.

He explained that before their departure, the House had issued a directive restraining local government council chairmen in the state from travelling, citing the ongoing preparations for the 2024 state appropriation bill and its scheduled presentation to the assembly by the state governor, Malam Umar Namadi.

Hon Tsubut said the actions of the chairmen as insubordination and a nonchalant attitude toward their primary responsibilities. He stressed the importance of conducting an investigation and imposing suitable punishment in accordance with the law.

Members representing Malam Madori constituency, Hon Usman Abdullahi Tura, and the Member representing Guri, Hon Hamza Guri, seconded the motion presented by Hon Tsubut and the House unanimously endorsed the suspension of the three local government chairmen and instructed their vice-chairmen to assume the responsibilities.

However, the House formed a committee headed by the Majority Leader, Hon Lawan Muhammad Dansure, to investigate the matter. The committee is tasked with reporting back to the House within four weeks for further action.
