Five Men Jailed For Cyber-Stalking, Defrauding Former Osun State Speaker Of N38m

Osogbo, Osun State– Five men have been found guilty and sentenced to prison for their involvement in a case of cyber-stalking and defrauding the former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Timothy Owoeye, of the sum of N38 million.

The convicts had allegedly blackmailed the speaker using a 13-second nude video of him that had been leaked on the internet in 2018. They accused the former member, who represented Ilesa East State Constituency in the Osun House of Assembly, of visiting their community to perform a ritual.

An investigation conducted by the Osun Police Command disclosed that the convicts, namely Kazeem Agbabiaka, Rasheed Ojonla, Babatunde Oluajo, Adebiyi Kehinde, Femi Oseni, and Oyebanji Oyeniyi, employed the video clip to extort about N38 million from Owoeye before making it public on the internet

In the trial of the convicts, who were charged with five counts related to conspiracy, advance-fee fraud, and cyber-stalking, the prosecution team from the Ministry of Justice, led by Mr Moses Faremi, presented six witnesses and submitted 57 exhibits, which included the bank statements of the defendants.

In the court’s ruling, Justice Ayo-Emmanuel sentenced Agbabiaka, Oyeniyi, Ojonla, and Oluajo to five years in prison for their involvement in conspiracy and advance-fee fraud.

However, the judge discharged and acquitted Ismaila Azeez on the cyberstalking charge, while Oseni was found guilty of the same charge and sentenced to five years in prison.
