Ilorin, Kwara StateChairman, Ifelodun local government APC, Alhaji Lateef Qadri struck back on Friday, which resulted in the Chairman of Transition Implementation Committee in the local government, Hon Jide Shonibare getting suspended from the party.

It was actually a case of ‘tit for tat’ as some party members including Hon Jide Shonibare and Alhaji Fatai Mustapha, who is the Ward Chairman, Idofian II, and Chairman of the Ward Chairmen Forum, Ifelodun Local Government, had earlier in the day, gathered in Share, the local government headquarters, asked Hon Lateef Qadri to resign from his position.

The party members and leaders, who met at the NULGE Hall, Share, demanded that Hon Lateef Qadri should resign from his position or get ‘sacked’.

‘Members hereby direct that Alhaji Lateef Kadiri should resign from his position as the party chairman within 48 hours. That in the event of Alhaji Lateef Qadir i’s refusal to resign as the APC chairman, he stands the chance of being removed

Meanwhile, the attendees of the meeting submitted a joint statement by Mr Olu Ajisafe and Elder Oyin Zubair.

Afrika Eyes learned that Ifelodun local government had always been known for being a hotbed of political drama, and the latest one was not unexpected.

Ifelodun LG APC officials in a joint statement made available to Afrika Eyes by the Chairman, Alhaji Lateef Qadri and Vice Chairman, Hon Razaq Owolabi Olatayo, announced that Hon Shonibare and two others have been suspended from the party.

‘It has come to the notice of the Ifelodun Local Government APC Executives that the TIC Chairman, Prince Jiide Asonibare is trying to cause problems in the Local Government by seeking to remove the elected party Chairman, Alhaji Lateef Quadri from office despite a series of peace meeting organized by the state Deputy Governor in his office. Today, the TIC Chairman along with other members of a factional group went to Share to hold a kangaroo meeting which was against the decision taken during the last peace meeting held at the Deputy Governor’s office on the 13th of October, 2023 where conflict and reconciliation committee that was set up by the party was endorsed.

In the light of the above and by the power vested in me by the constitution of our party, the following people are hereby suspended from the party for organizing an unconstitutional meeting without the notice of the Ifelodun Party Chairman, the Deputy Governor and other critical stakeholders including the two members of the Kwara state House of Assembly.

1. Alhaji Fatai Mustapha (Leko) – Ward Chairman, Idofian II & Chairman of Ward Chairmen Forum, Ifelodun Local Government.

2. Mr. Olu Ajisafe – Secretary, APC Ifelodun Local Government.

3. Prince Jide Asonibare – TIC Chairman, Ifelodun Local Government’ the statement said.

In an interview with Afrika Eyes on Friday night, Hon Lateef Qadri accused the TIC Chairman, Hon Jide Shonibare of spreading false information about him and picking the wrong fight.

He has also accused the TIC Chairman of spreading false information that he has begun to ‘coordinate things’ for Senator Sadiq Umar ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial election.

Hon Lateef also added that he got into Hon Shonibare’s bad books after being told that he was the one who moved a motion that the TIC chairmen should be replaced during the meeting held with the governor by the Forum of APC LG Chairmen. The truth is that the information given to him is not correct.

“He is actually picking the wrong fight, we do not need intraparty conflict but rather unity. The Deputy Governor had convened peace meetings twice, we also set up a reconciliation committee that was endorsed by all the stakeholders and the committee will submit its report soon.

“Instead of ensuring unity in the party, they have been busy promoting propaganda and falsehood. They all worked for candidates of other political parties in the last General Election. They have continued to disrespect the Deputy Governor and other leaders

“They only supported Governor AbdulRazaq’s candidacy and supported opposition candidates in other elections we were only lucky to have won through divine support.

“They got offended because I supported the candidates endorsed by the party during the primary elections that were held ahead of the last general election.

“They also said I am Senator Sadiq Umar’s coordinator in the local government ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial election, this is someone I have never had one-on-one with. I don’t know where they got the wrong information. I am busy taking steps to ensure unity in Ifelodun LG APC, Senator Sadiq represents Kwara North, and Ifelodun LG is in Kwara South. We should not distract our dear governor, this is time for governance I don’t know who is feeding them with wrong information,” he said.
