Boko Haram IED Kill 21 Mourners, Mostly Children, Women

The attack occurred after the victims attended the burial of the youths killed by the terrorists over failure to pay taxes.

Damaturu, Yobe State –  No fewer than 21 mourners, predominantly children and women, lost their lives when a tricycle was struck by an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Boko Haram terrorists.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, during a solemn gathering in Goni, Mittiri village, as the mourners had gathered to pay their respects to a departed loved one. Unknown to them, a deadly IED had been planted in their path.

“18 persons, mostly children and women died instantly while 3 died at General Hospital in Geidam when they were receiving medical treatment.

“Recently they (Boko Haram) have increased their attacks on civilians, farmers and herders,” the source added.

Another source said, “So far 21 persons have been confirmed dead while four people with minor injuries were left in the village.

“The Jega tricycle was loaded with over 30 people who were picked up to return them to their villages,” Daily Trust report.

Spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP Dungus Abdulkareem, who confirmed the incident said 20 persons had been confirmed dead in Monday’s attack.
