Gunmen Invade Ondo Forest Reserve Farm Settlements
Akure, Ondo State – Gunmen invaded a farm settlement in the Oluwa Forest Reserve in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The assailants reportedly targeted the farming communities, with farmers expressing concerns that the invasion was an attempt to scare them away and potentially pave the way for further destruction of their valuable cocoa plantations.
They said the gunmen shot sporadically into the air to scare them but they managed to apprehend one of them who was handed over to Police Area Command in Ore.
One of the farmers, Olumide Adekunle, said, “We were on our farms when these armed men stormed the settlement. They came with guns and threatened us to leave our cocoa plantations. It was a terrifying experience, and we had no choice but to retreat from our farms.”
Ondo Police spokesman, SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya confirmed the arrest of one suspect believed to be one of the armed men but said an investigation was ongoing.
