Abeokuta, Ogun State– A man identified as Wasiu Oyekan has allegedly beaten his neighbor, Ibrahim Lateef, to death over a sum of N4,500 in Ogun State.

The incident occurred in the vicinity of Kobiti Central Mosque, Kobiti, Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.

It was gathered that a dispute between Oyekan and Lateef stemmed from an incident that took place in August, when the suspect accused the deceased’s son and another boy of damaging his PlayStation video game console.

Oyekan demanded N9,000 to repair the game, and Lateef had initially paid him N4,500, promising to pay the balance later.

The situation escalated when Oyekan grew impatient with the delayed payment and decided to involve the police. Lateef, upon discovering that his son had been taken to the police station, confronted Oyekan.

During the confrontation, Oyekan allegedly struck Lateef in the neck, causing him to fall and hit his head on the ground.

Eyewitnesses recounted that Lateef started bleeding from his nose and ears and subsequently lost his life.

Lateef, who was also known as Tijuuku, is survived by his mother, a wife caring for a two-month-old baby girl, other children, and younger siblings. His aged mother reportedly fainted upon hearing the news of her son’s demise.

The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the incident to the newsmen.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, directed inquiries to the Divisional Police Officer of Oke-Itoku, CSP Hadiza Abu Oganyi, who confirmed the incident.

Meanwhile, the case has been transferred to the force headquarters immediately after it happened.

The DPO explained that the deadly altercation began when Lateef confronted Oyekan for involving the police in the matter.
