Supreme Court Sets Date For Atiku’s Appeal To Nullify President Tinubu’s Victory

The apex court fixed 9am of the date for Atiku’s lawyers and those of President Tinubu to address its panel of seven Justices

Abuja, NigeriaThe Supreme Court of Nigeria has scheduled Monday, October 23, for the hearing of an appeal filed by the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, who is seeking the nullification of President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the presidential election.

The highest court is set to consider Atiku’s request to present new evidence on the same day. This evidence aims to demonstrate that President Bola Tinubu allegedly submitted a falsified certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Meanwhile, the apex court fixed 9am of the date for Atiku’s lawyers and those of President Tinubu to address its panel of seven Justices on whether it has the powers to grant the request.

However, legal representatives from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), both of whom are co-respondents in the motion, are also scheduled to present their arguments to the court regarding this contentious request.

Their responsibility is to present arguments and cite relevant laws to assess whether such a request can be granted in accordance with the country’s Constitution and the Electoral Act of 2022.

The documents that Atiku intends to submit as evidence consist of Tinubu’s academic records, which were provided to him by Chicago State University on Monday, October 2nd.

It would be recalled that the 32-page documents were released to Atiku on the directives of Judge Nancy Maldonado from the District Court of Illinois, Eastern Division, Illinois, United States of America.
