23-Year-Old Man Kills Mother Over Food In Akwa Ibom

The suspect confessed to the crime and alleged that his mother failed to give him food for three days

Uyo, Akwa Ibom State – A  23-year-old man, Akaninyene Sunday Isaac, has been arrested by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command for allegedly killing his own mother, 55-year-old Christiana Sunday Isaac, in Oruk Uso Otoro Village in the Abak Local Government Area of the state.

According to sources, the incident occurred on a fateful evening when Akaninyene Isaac reportedly took the life of his mother, using a deadly machete for allegedly starving him for three days.

She was said to have died before she could get medical attention.

Meanwhile, the body of the woman has been deposited in a mortuary.

The Spokesperson of the command, SP Odiko Macdon, confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday, October 16, 2023.

He said operatives of Abak Division arrested the suspect on the 11th of October.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and alleged that his mother failed to give him food for three days, hence he used a machete to inflict grievous injuries on her, leading to her death,” the statement reads.

“Suspect will have his day in court as soon as the investigation is concluded.”

Meanwhile, family sources disclosed that the suspect usually asked his mother for money and she always granted his request but on that fateful day, she refused to give him, saying there was no money.

Her refusal was said to have angered the suspect and he attacked her with a machete.
