Two Robbers Killed, Inspector, Guards Shot In Ogun Gunfight

Two of the hoodlums were fatally wounded while others escaped into a nearby bush with bullet wounds.

Ogun State, Nigeria -In the early hours of Friday, a police inspector and two security guards sustained gunshot wounds during a fierce gunfight with armed robbers at Remo Majestic Hotel in Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The assailants, disguised as hotel guests, launched an attack on the establishment, catching both staff and guests off guard.

The injured officer and security guards were promptly rushed to the Olabisi Onabanjo Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), where they are currently receiving medical treatment.

SP Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, confirmed the incident in a statement, said the Sagamu Area Command received a distress call around 1 a.m., alerting them to the presence of armed hoodlums at Remo Majestic Hotel in Sagamu.

“At about 0100hrs a distress call was received by Acpol Sagamu that armed hoodlums were operating at Remo Majestic Hotel in Sagamu. Based on the report a combined team of Policemen were mobilized to the scene,” she said.

Odutola said that immediately the hoodlums sighted the policemen, they opened sporadic firing while the policemen engaged the hoodlums.

Two of the hoodlums were fatally wounded while others escaped into a nearby bush with bullet wounds.

Items recovered from the robbers included two locally made single barrel guns, four unexpended cartridges, 13 expended cartridges, one big scissors, 10 Android Phones, one Java phone, a white Toyota Venza Car with registration number BWR 123DD Abuja among items.

According to the PPRO, one police inspector and two security guards were shot by the armed robbers but were rescued at Olabisi Onabanjo Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) and are reported to be in stable condition.

The image maker said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspected armed robbers had earlier mingled with lodgers before launching the dastardly attacks.

On his part, the Commissioner of Police, Alamutu Abiodun, ordered an immediate manhunt for the two fleeing suspects who escaped with bullet wounds.
