14-Year-Old Girl Commits Suicide Over Allegations Of Abuse By Father, Step-Mother

Upon her father’s return, he promptly retrieved her lifeless body from the hospital and attempted to conduct a secret burial at home.

A 14-year-old girl identified as Desola Adeoye, Tuesday, committed suicide in the Shogunle community of  Lagos State.

It was gathered that Desola, who had reportedly endured severe abuse from her father, Sunday Adeoye, and his wife, resorted to consuming insecticide as a way to escape the ongoing torment.

According to the information gathered, Desola took the drastic step of ending her life following a threatening encounter with her stepmother after returning home from summer school, her stepmother warned her that her father would confront her upon his return, adding to her distress.

Troubled by the threat, Desola secretly left her home and consumed the household insecticide, she was quickly taken to a nearby private hospital, where she gave up the ghost.

Upon her father’s return, he promptly retrieved her lifeless body from the hospital and attempted to conduct a secret burial at home. However, his plan was thwarted by police officers from Shogunle Divisional Police Station, who were informed by concerned neighbours and intervened.

A neighbour confirmed the torture that Desola and her siblings have been passing through.

“The late Desola and her two younger sisters were regularly subjected to domestic violence by their biological father and stepmother every time they made a mistake.

“Shogunle Community Development Association in Oshodi, CDA, had, on numerous occasions, cautioned their father and stepmother to stop the physical abuse unleashed on their children especially late Desola Adeoye.”

Mr Ebenezer Omejalile, the Chief Operating Officer of Advocates for Children and Vulnerable Persons Network, has issued an appeal to the Lagos State government, the Nigeria Police, and the Nigeria Bar Association.

He urged them to intervene and safeguard the two remaining children who are still in the custody of the couple. He also emphasized the importance of securing justice for the late Desola.
