Youths, Women Burn Military Checkpoint In Plateau Over Incessant Killings
Jos, Plateau State– Tension has escalated in the Kassa community in the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State after some youths and women launched an attack on a military checkpoint and set it ablaze.
Afrika Eyes gathered that the incident occurred on Monday following the burial of Gyang Nuhu Choji, who was reportedly killed on April 16 under circumstances that have heightened anger and frustration within the community.
Eyewitnesses said the protesters, mostly young people and women from the Berom ethnic group, stormed the Rapung Kassa area where the checkpoint was located.
In a show of outrage, they vandalised and eventually burned down the security post, accusing security personnel of failing to protect residents from repeated attacks and killings in the area.

Sources within the community said the protest quickly escalated, with demonstrators blocking major roads, causing disruption to movement and economic activities for several hours.
The situation, however, was later brought under control after the intervention of community leaders and security officials, who appealed for calm and assured residents that measures would be taken to address their concerns.

The incident shows the growing frustration among residents of Plateau State over persistent insecurity, particularly in rural communities where attacks have continued despite the presence of security forces.
As of the time of reporting, security presence has reportedly been reinforced in the area to prevent further breakdown of law and order, while authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
