‘We Won’t Stop Stealing Until Nigerians Stone Us’ — Amaechi Blasts Political Class, Warns Governance Is Dying

Abuja, Nigeria– Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has accused Nigeria’s political elite, declaring that politicians will continue looting public funds unless citizens rise in resistance.

Amaechi made the explosive remarks on Friday during an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time, where he accused the political class of deliberately impoverishing Nigerians while governance steadily collapses.

Recounting a past statement he made as Governor of Rivers State at an event organised by Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka at Freedom House, Amaechi said the warning remains as relevant today as ever.

“I told Nigerians that we the politicians will not stop stealing if Nigerians don’t stone us,” he said.

The former minister, who has long positioned himself as a reform-minded figure within Nigeria’s political landscape, admitted that while a handful of leaders have made meaningful contributions, the overall system is failing.

“The politicians are impoverishing Nigerians. I’m a different politician and there are others as well. A lot of governors have made positive contributions. But governance is slowly dying and it’s quite painful,” he added.

Amaechi’s remarks come amid mounting economic hardship across the country, with rising inflation, unemployment, and widespread dissatisfaction fueling public frustration.
