Benin, Edo State– A student of the University of Benin, popularly known as UNIBEN, has been shot dead inside his vehicle near the main entrance of the institution’s Ugbowo campus in Benin City, Edo State.

In a video obtained by Afrika Eyes, the victim was seen slumped inside the vehicle after being shot in the forehead.
Bullet holes were also visible on the vehicle’s windscreen as bystanders gathered around the scene in shock.
Afrika Eyes gathered that the student had allegedly just concluded his semester examinations before the attack, although this claim has not been officially confirmed by the authorities.
Reacting to the incident, the management of the University of Benin distanced members of the institution from the circumstances surrounding the killing, suggesting that the attack might be linked to suspected cult-related activities outside the university environment.
In a statement, the university expressed sadness over the killing and appealed to students and staff members to remain calm, vigilant and security conscious while going about their academic activities peacefully.
The institution also reassured members of the university community of its commitment to maintaining security and safety within the campus environment.
As of the time of filing this report, the Edo State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
