Two Children Die, Seven Injured In Lagos-Abeokuta Road Crash

The injured victims were taken to General Hospital, Ifo, and the corpses were deposited at the morgue.

Abeokuta, Ogun State- The Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that two children died in a road accident at Kere in the Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State.
It was gathered that the accident occurred around 11 p.m. on Saturday, leaving seven other people with various degrees of injuries.

This was contained in a statement released on Sunday by the spokesperson for the Command, Florence Okpe, who attributed the accident to overloading and excessive speed.

She explained that the accident involved a white Toyota Camry with registration number AGL36JA.

The image maker stated that the injured were taken to Ifo General Hospital, while the bodies of the deceased were also deposited at the same hospital.

According to the statement, “Operatives from the FRSC Itori Unit Command carried out a rescue operation on Saturday, 31st August 2024, at Kere, Itori, following a crash that occurred at about 2300hrs.

“It was a single-vehicle crash involving a white Toyota Camry with registration number AGL36JA.

“A total of 7 male adults, 1 male child, and 1 female child were involved in the crash. The male child and the female child were killed, while the others sustained various injuries.

“The injured victims were taken to General Hospital, Ifo, and the corpses were deposited at the morgue.

“The suspected causes of the crash were excessive speed and overloading. The car was overloaded with passengers,” Okpe said.

Meanwhile, Ogun State Sector Commander Akinwumi Fasakin condemned the crash, calling it a clear sign of disregard for life by both the driver and passengers, who failed to recognize the dangers of overloading the vehicle.

He urged motorists to refrain from overloading their vehicles with goods or passengers, emphasizing that such behavior is dangerous not only for the driver but also for other road users and is a violation of traffic regulations.

Fasakin also extended his condolences to the families of the crash victims and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
