‘Tinubu Should Resign, Forget 2027’ — Yoruba Union Blasts President Over Rising Terror Attacks, Kidnapped Schoolchildren
The union accused Tinubu of prioritising political calculations for the 2027 general elections while innocent Nigerians remain in captivity under harsh and life-threatening conditions.
Ikeja, Lagos State- The Yoruba Union, Ìgbìnmó Májékóbájé Ilé-Yorùbá, has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of failing to address the worsening insecurity across Nigeria, particularly the continued abduction of schoolchildren, teachers, women, and rural residents by terrorists.
The union accused Tinubu of prioritising political calculations for the 2027 general elections while innocent Nigerians remain in captivity under harsh and life-threatening conditions.
The group said the President has continued “laughing and snapping pictures with politicians” while kidnapped women and children suffer in terrorist camps without certainty about their survival.
This was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Convener of the union, Olusola Badero, through the organisation’s Home Director, Princess Balogun.
According to the statement, the Yoruba Union expressed concerns that the President was living comfortably with his family under heavy security protection while several kidnapped victims remain abandoned in forests and terrorist hideouts.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu openly laughs and snaps pictures with politicians while sleeping comfortably with his wife and children under heavy security protection, whereas innocent schoolchildren, teachers, principals and women are in the custody of terrorists under rain, sun and cold, uncertain whether they will come out alive or not,” they said.
The organisation stated that it had repeatedly warned Tinubu, South-West governors and authorities in Kwara State about the growing invasion and occupation of communities in the South-West by armed Fulani terrorists.
“We warned President Tinubu and South-West governors, including the Kwara State government, about the invasion of Fulani terrorists who have occupied several parts of the South-West, but our warnings were ignored,” the group said.
The union further described Tinubu’s administration as incompetent in handling Nigeria’s worsening security crisis, insisting that the President should have resigned long ago.
“Tinubu should have resigned before now because of his incompetence in handling the country. Instead of showing seriousness about the security crisis, he was seen revealing his teeth and snapping pictures with politicians while remaining unconcerned about women and children being held captive by terrorists.”
The group raised alarm over the increasing number of women and children being held by terrorist groups across different parts of the country.
According to the union, more than 174 women and children from Woro in Kaiama Local Government Area are reportedly under captivity, while another 416 women and children in Borno State are under the control of Boko Haram insurgents.
The organisation also lamented the continued abduction of schoolchildren, teachers and a principal from Ogbomoso, saying they had remained with terrorists for over 18 days without rescue.
“For 18 days now, our schoolchildren, teachers and principal from Ogbomoso have remained in the custody of terrorists,” the group stated.
The Yoruba Union demanded the immediate release of the 47 teachers and students kidnapped in Ahoro Esiele Community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
“We demand the immediate release of the 47 teachers and students kidnapped in Ahoro Esiele Community, Oriire Local Government Area,” Ìgbìnmó Májékóbájé Ilé-Yorùbá said.
The union said it could not imagine the pain, trauma and fear the abducted students and teachers had endured during their captivity.
“We cannot begin to imagine the pain, fear and trauma that the kidnapped children and their teachers have endured over the past 18 days.”
The group accused the Federal Government of adopting cosmetic approaches to insecurity rather than taking decisive steps to rescue the country from collapse.
“Tinubu should stop all these cosmetic approaches. He has never shown readiness to rescue the country from collapse. All he is after is winning the 2027 election,” the union said.
The organisation also lamented the deteriorating security situation across highways and rural communities in Nigeria, stating that many communities have become easy targets for terrorists due to years of infrastructural neglect.
“People can no longer travel safely on highways. Rural communities are attacked daily because decades of lack of infrastructure and basic amenities have emboldened terrorists to easily gain access to those communities,” Yoruba Union noted.
The group further claimed that many local defenders had been killed by terrorists, while women and girls had become victims of molestation because authorities failed to protect lives and property.
“Our men who were supposed to defend their communities have been killed by these terrorists. Our daughters have become victims of molestation, likewise our mothers, because those saddled with the responsibility of protecting lives and property failed to do so,” the statement added.
However, the Yoruba Union described Tinubu’s administration as “a disaster” and warned Nigerians against allowing a repeat of such leadership in the future.
“Tinubu is a big disaster that should be avoided, and Nigeria must never allow such to happen again,” the statement declared.
