Tinubu Orders Army Battalion Into Kaiama As Boko Haram Terrorists Killed Dozens Of Villagers In Kwara

President Tinubu condemned the attack, describing the assailants as heartless and inhuman for deliberately targeting civilians who posed no threat.

Abuja, Nigeria– President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the immediate deployment of an Army battalion to Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State following a deadly overnight attack by suspected Boko Haram terrorists that left several innocent villagers killed in Worro community.

The President’s directive comes amid growing concerns over the expansion of terrorist activities into parts of the North-Central region, with Kaiama becoming the latest flashpoint after gunmen stormed the rural community, killing unarmed and defenceless residents.

According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the newly deployed battalion will establish a fresh military command in the area and spearhead Operation Savannah Shield.

President Tinubu condemned the attack, describing the assailants as heartless and inhuman for deliberately targeting civilians who posed no threat.

“The President condemned the cowardly and beastly attack and described the gunmen as heartless for choosing soft targets in their doomed campaign of terror,” Onanuga said.

The President expressed particular outrage that the attackers killed members of the community who had reportedly resisted attempts to indoctrinate them into extremist ideology.

According to the Presidency, the terrorists resorted to violence after the villagers rejected their radical teachings and insisted on practising Islam in a manner rooted in peace, tolerance and dialogue.

President Tinubu noted that the victims paid the ultimate price for refusing to embrace an ideology that promotes violence and bloodshed under the guise of religion.

“It is commendable that the community members, even though Muslims, refused to be conscripted into a weird belief that promoted violence over peace and dialogue,” the President said, praising the courage and moral conviction of the slain villagers.

He stressed that no group has the right to impose extremist beliefs on others or terrorise communities into submission, adding that the Federal Government will not tolerate the spread of insurgency or religious extremism in any part of the country.

The President further directed security agencies to work closely with the Kwara State Government and local authorities to stabilise the area, restore confidence among residents and prevent further attacks.

He emphasised the need for robust intelligence gathering, inter-agency collaboration and sustained military presence to ensure the terrorists are flushed out completely.

Tinubu also urged federal and state agencies to provide immediate humanitarian assistance and relief to survivors and families affected by the massacre.

He warned that those responsible for the killings would be hunted down and brought to justice, insisting that the perpetrators must not be allowed to escape accountability.

“The President urged collaboration between federal and state agencies to provide succour to members of the community and ensure those who committed the atrocities do not go scot-free,” the statement added.

President Tinubu prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased and condoled with those who lost family members. He also condoled with the people and the government of Kwara State.
