Tinubu Hails Governors Over APC Presidential Primary Process, Says Internal Democracy Working Well

Ikeja, Lagos State– President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday expressed satisfaction with the way governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) handled the ongoing presidential primary election process across the country, describing the exercise as peaceful, organised and a strong demonstration of internal democracy.

The Nigerian leader spoke shortly after participating in the APC Presidential Primary Election at his Ikoyi ward in Lagos State, where party members and supporters gathered in large numbers during the exercise.

Speaking with journalists after casting his vote, Tinubu said the APC had demonstrated a high level of internal democracy by allowing members at the grassroots to actively participate in the process.

According to him, the conduct of the exercise showed that the party remained committed to democratic principles and inclusiveness.

“Demonstration of internal democracy and it has been going very well according to plan,” Tinubu said.

“This is politics, grassroots politics, where every member of the party has a right to participate and be involved. My approach is to ensure that we have an internal democracy and it’s peaceful and well organised.”

The President also defended the role played by APC governors in coordinating the process nationwide after being asked whether he was satisfied with the assignment earlier entrusted to them to organise what party officials described as an acceptable process across the federation.

Responding to the question, Tinubu said the governors had performed creditably in their various states and ensured that the congresses and delegate processes were properly conducted.

“Today, I am very satisfied that these governors have done well in their various states,” the President said.

“From the Ward Congresses to local government congresses, to the delegate accreditation, validation, members register and certification of the electoral process, it has been all very well.

“At least, you will score democracy at a high level.”

Tinubu’s appearance at the exercise drew loud cheers from party loyalists and supporters who thronged the venue, chanting slogans and expressing support for his leadership.

When asked about the massive show of support from party members and admirers at the venue, the President said the development only motivated him further.

“I’m just excited,” Tinubu said.

“They challenge me more.”
